Tuesday Noon

Day 5. Mikele says Dorothy is doing well enough today, that they're taking her down for a CAT scan. I guess that means her vital signs are more stable than they've been. They're also installing a PICC line, to give her arms a break from the I.V. sites. No changes to medications today. Her body seems to be regulating its own temperature and doesn't need the heating and cooling blankets today. Today is "quiet day", so there's no talking allowed in her ICU room. Talking and other stimulation can trigger a brainstorm of activity that reduces brain healing. So Mikele gets to sit out in the visitor room, and then check in on her periodically.

It is so hard to know what to say at a difficult time like this. I know that Gods warmth is wrapped around Dorothy at this moment. I can still picture her as a toddler playing next to my daughter Veronica as you taught the boy scout group when our boys were young. We moved away and just recently moved back, so I have not seen you in a long while. You are such a caring and loving mother Mikele. God will give you the strength to get through this. I was in a car accident also on Hwy 41 10 years ago. We were rear ended and pushed over the edge of the mt. near the campground. As the car was going down the hill I felt such a warmth and peace, no fear, it is hard to describe. I KNOW that God is there with Dorothy every second of the day. I am praying for you all daily. I am a friend of a friend and I have been praying since I heard Saturday night. I am glad that we are seeing some improvement with her. God is good and we can count on Him in times like this... I just wanted to say that my whole family is praying and we can't wait to see her get up.

God Bless,
Kyle

Bob and Mikele, we want you to know that all our love and best wishes are with you. Duejean is hiking in South America and I'm trying to get word to her, but I know she would be right there beside you now if she could. We want to join with all the others who are giving you strength and comfort.

We just now heard about the accident, Mikele. I missed it in the paper and Kristin at Embassy Suites called to tell us. Please know that all of us here at the Symphony are praying for Dorothy and for your entire family. As the last comment here said, you are a caring, loving, calm and positive person, and Mom! I pray for God's strength to fill you and for the healing of your sweet girl's body and mind.
We're here should you need anything at all. Love and prayers, Patty

Bob and Mikele,
I came to the ICU to minister to you, but Mikele you ministered more to me in expressing your trust in God 's sovereignty, wisdom, and perfect love. We are praying for His peace to guard your hearts and minds in Christ, and for healing for Dorothy.

I am very happy to hear that she seems to be improving still. I am praying for Dorot and you all. I will hopefully come by and visit today...with a little treat.

School today was weird...all of my teachers knew about it and most of them were really nice about it. Although, Mr. Fugle was business as always. XD

I love you so much, Dorot. I hope you get to read this soon.

Hey Dorothy,

I miss you. It's good to hear that you're making a full recovery. Even I've been praying, which should tell you something. I don't know where the prayers of agnostics go, but I hope they help.

Dorothy! D: It was weird not being with you at school today. You probably wouldn't have liked it though, because, as Alanna said, it was very rainy and cold, and will continue to be all week. -_-
Dylan's been writing school stuff down for you, so you'll know what been going on. SUCH A NICE KID.
We discussed you in Computer Ops. The kids next to me didn't know what you looked like, so I showed them a picture from an article...which didn't actually change anything, because they still don't know you, but oh well.
You're actually still in a coma right now, so I can't think of a way that you could read this...but hey! That makes it seem as though, by reading this entry, you are GOING BACK IN TIME.
Finally, my thoughts are with you and your family. There'll probably be some tough times ahead, but nothing you guys can't push through.
Waiting (with anticipation!) for you to wake up,
Ashley
P.S. Also, one day I am going to come over and clean your room. A little OCD goes a long way.

Hey it was kinda freaky to hear about such a scary thing saying i was talking to you 5-6 minutes before it happened. i didn't know until 24 hours later at the dance from kelsie. gosh your intense. i could not hold up like you are im i little softy inside. I did come by the hospital on sunday but no one was there and right outside the ICU it said GOOOOOOD friends and family and stuff so i didn't think it quite appropriot to call in saying i was here to see you or to drop flowers or something. when your out though you can count on a visit. whoever manages the blog should post what kinda flowers you prefer ^^ will be seein u soon because i know you'll be outa the ICU soon. LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE from me and others and thinkin of you bunches,
walter

Dorothy,

My daughter Emily Leyva met you in Girl Scouts several years ago. Although we haven't seen you in a long time, I'm sure you're still the remarkable, strong young woman you were then. I believe, hope and pray that you will overcome this. My thoughts and prayers are also with your family as they see you through your recovery.

Marianne Leyva

PS: I'm grateful for this blog. I read the small article in Sunday's Tribune, but hadn't heard anything more until now. Thank you!

hi Dorothy!
you kind-of know me, i am Michelle's little sister Krysty! i sometimes hang out with you and Alana and Kelsie and such so we are cool! Anyways i heard about the accident and i hope your feeling alright. i just wanted to tell you that i will be praying for you and hoping for the best. Also, the group where Michelle hangs out was so different today without you there. I went up to Michelle and i was all, "whats different with the group today?" and she said, "Well for one thing, we'er all standing up." and so i told her, "no, there has to be something else thats different." then she told me that you weren't there and thats totally what it was! I'm also really sad that you had to miss winter formal because it was really fun there were lights and decorations and the DJ from Wild106 was there and he was really cool. They also had free coffee, hot chocolate and food. i was really looking forward to seeing your dress too because i heard from Alana that it was cute. Well, like i said before, i hope you get better soon and i will pray for you.
Hugs and Kisses

Bob and Mikele: I continue to support you and your family with thoughts and prayers.

Dorothy: This is Kylie, I was listening to an alternative radio station as I was reading your updates whenthis song came on: "High Falls" by the Allman Brothers froma vynll record and it sounded like you in music! It was video game sound with a whole new spirit and direction that had a nice melody to tell your famous dreams to. I can't help remembering that you are probably still formulating that book I was going to illistrate for you and I will gladly do what I can when you can come back and tell me more about your characters. I love you girl and I know you will come back soon because the world has not yet been exposed to your creative genius expressed through fantasy and writing, you'll be a famous author I just am sure of. Be sure to treat the nurses right and know that everyone who I talk to is praying for you and knows that you are going to come back soon. Talk to you later TheD.
Your friend;
Kylie

p.s. how do you think the ICU would look with Dorothy's purple velvet curtains?
