Waking up!

Today, Dorothy wrote Bob a letter! It said:

Hey Dad, I'm awake now, barely. My arms are active despite the usual waiting. We are looking for my hairbrush now, so to satisfy the nurse, I'm writing some. Life is such a blur right now. I'm just not sure any more. Give me a while please. Dorothy

The nurses at Sierra Vista said she won't remember anything from her time in the ICU when she wakes up. When Bob said today, "Do you remember anything about the ICU?", she replied, "No." Guess what? They were so right! Maybe she started to really wake up yesterday.

So... she's waking up! Bob's gone over the events of the last two weeks for her, day by day. He told her "Mom's sick, but she's nearby," and she seems ok with that.

Later today, she wrote Bob a three page letter, asking about how she got here, and what's going on with her friends, and then asked something cryptic about how things were going with a particular friend.

One of the nice things about rehab, is that we can bring our concerns to the case manager, who can work with the rest of the team, to come up with a plan that's right for Dorothy.

Man, it's so good to read that she is more and more conscious and aware each day. I am glad she's been able to write and get some of her questions answered. I am praying for her and thinking of her constantly. Dorot, I love you. <3

Dorothy, I have been praying for you every single day. I am so happy to read your blog, to find that you are doing better. My prayers were answered. It brings happy tears to many of us. Some of us of course have green tears. I will continue to pray for your continued progress and for continued strenght for Mikele.

Hey guys! So excited to be awake too! It's so wierd. I've been too odd since I woke up with this condition. Really, so have all of you. The only person that thasn't changed in the east sounds to be Kelcie, who I've heard the supprising least about. The things I've read /heard about those of you not wrote about excite me quite a bit. Of course, to hear from you would be the best, especially since no other source really lets me know about you.

Hi Dorothy,
3rd period Hospitality class always asks about how you are doing. We all hope your rehab goes well. Bobby said when you come back he'd cook you anything you want. You should request a 5 course meal with a decadent dessert! Every night I read your blog and find it heartening to hear of your progress. I just can't describe how awesome it was to see that you had posted a comment. Wow!

Dorothy!
Journalism class has been much less fun without your random surprise visits. Alanna, Ashley, Michelle and I miss you very much, and I've been praying frequently for your recovery. It's so exciting that you're not writing! Hooray!

Some of our friends at lunch have been talking and joking that when you wake up, we should visit you and dress up as robots and say, "Welcome, Dorothy, to the future. You've been asleep for quite some time," or something along those lines. We're only kidding, of course! Just thought you might find that funny.

We all hope that you write more often! French class is so empty without you. Every morning in French, I get books for Ashley, Michelle, myself, and yourself. Then Ashely or Michelle puts them away.

Anyway, hang in there! You'll find that things will make sense more and more as the world reforms around you!
