Yet another milestone reached! Dorothy is on her way for her "swallow test", which will track her ability to effectively swallow a variety of liquids. This is a big deal because if she's cleared, she can start taking some liquids by mouth! And the sooner she can get rid of the NG tube, the better. She just hates whatever it is they're giving her - gives her an upset stomach every time.
Today she also walked all over the hospital - and this is a BIG hospital! Her therapist walked beside her to steady her if she needed it, but she was on her own for the most part. Wow. The therapist gave her a map and told her to find about 15 different things - kind of like a treasure hunt! I followed behind with the wheelchair again... but she only needed to rest for a couple of minutes when she got dizzy, before she stood up again on her own to continue walking.
Go, Dorothy, Go!

This is awesome news!!! Keep up the good work, Dorothy.
Hey Dorth...so glad you are doing well...although I didn't see you much when I was staying at your place, you were in my thoughts always, and still are. Sounds like you don't remember, but we did a little drawing together in your ICU room with colored pens, and I got to be there early on when you were coming out of the drug coma. I hope to see you drawing cartoons again soon, even some about your rehab..I bet you can come up with some funny ones...maybe even about the stuff you don't like there! I'm sure Mikele could scan them and get them on the blog somehow...that would be a great treat!
Hey Dorothy, again, Yea !!!!! you are doing so great everyday. Look forward to seeing you Saturday. You'll probably be close to running laps in the hospital by then at the rate your going, take it a little easy now. see you soon, Sharon Rad
Hey so glad that every say you are progressing towards the grand trip home! I am so happy that you can walk for a long distance and will be able to swallow liquids (the stuff you get now sounds gross cant imagine haveing to digest it). Hope to hear more soon.

This is great! Go, Dorothy, Go! complete this treasure hunt to recovery! We're all over here doing our best to support you.
Whee~ Go, Dorothy!
Hi all, this is Bob, Dorothy’s father:
I wonder for all of you who know me, you may be wondering how do I see “God” in all this that has been happening. I look at other Christians and I thing that they are just eternal optimists, always seeing the good and never the bad. They thank God for the great recovery she has had. But we all seem to ignore that she was sitting in the back seat of a car when a drunk driver came out of nowhere going a ridiculous speed then maiming and almost killing her. Where is God in that?
I have always thought that the world is like a building on fire where God runs in and rescues those who call his name. However, believing God is sovereign, he is the one who set it on fire. God is actually rescuing us from a situation He created. Some Christians, either blame ourselves or Satan. But all that does is remove God’s sovereignty which, I believe, is blasphemy.
As a Christian, how do I reconcile all this? I believe that when God created this world he was actually creating something else: TRUE LOVE
To understand this better, think of it as a marriage between a man and a woman. One couple, who love each other, get married and are placed in a “biodorm” where all their needs are met and they never encounter any trials or challenges. Since they live trouble free and fully protected lives their love is “untested” and does not “ripen”.
Another couple is married. At first they struggle with job and career problems. They have children and face an array of problems with health, discipline and other issues. The husband at one point cheats on the wife. She finds out, they reconcile and she forgives him. Later she ends up having a drinking problem, and he nurses her through it supporting her all the way. They face crisis but they never give up and they keep their marriage together and their love strong.
The difference between the true couples is that the first died knowing love. The second died knowing TRUE LOVE.
God created this “building on fire” to create true love. True love is a “tested” love and that makes it real. Also, our God became a person, Jesus, who came down into the fire to rescues us. He has lived here and has suffered much more than I ever have. If, like in the story of Job, I give up my faith and “curse God than die” then my love is not a true love.
This story is not only about me, it is also about Dorothy and you. Where are you with God through all this? How deep is your love? Romans 8:25 says: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who LOVE HIM, who have been called according to His purpose.” And it says in James 1:12, “Blessed is the person who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crow of life that God has promised to those WHO LOVE HIM.”
amen! i love you Dorothy!
